Author Guidelines (Article Submission Requirements)
The Linguistic Research biannual journal publishes research articles in the fields of theoretical linguistics, applied linguistics, related domains, ancient cultures and languages, studies on Iranian language dialects, and book reviews.
General Characteristics of Acceptable Articles
-
The article must be the result of the author's (or authors') original research, must not have been published elsewhere, and must not be submitted to another journal while its review process at this journal is ongoing.
-
Submitted articles should have no more than two authors, except for articles derived from doctoral dissertations. For such articles, only the names of the main supervisor and one advisor should be included as authors.
-
The article must include, in order: Title, Abstract, Keywords (5-7 words), Introduction, Main Body, Discussion & Conclusion, and References.
-
Submissions must be prepared in a text file using B Nazanin font, size 13, with 24 lines per page. Page margins should be set to 5 cm from top/bottom and 4.5 cm from right/left. The article must be uploaded to the journal's system in both Microsoft Word (2007 or 2010) and PDF formats.
-
The Persian abstract and keywords should be in font size 11 and must be over 300 words. Additionally, each article must have an English abstract in Times New Roman font, size 12, also over 300 words.
-
The author's name, academic rank, affiliated university, email address, and phone number must be provided on a separate cover page, submitted in both Persian and Latin scripts.
-
The total length of the article, including all components except the English abstract and the English transliteration of references, must not exceed 24 pages.
-
Both the Persian and English abstracts (each >300 words) should provide a comprehensive overview of the article, including the problem statement, objectives, research method, and key findings.
-
The introduction should preferably cover the article's subject, literature review, theoretical foundations, and an outline of the article's structure.
Formatting and Structure
-
Different sections of the article must be numbered separately. Numbering begins with Section 1 for the Introduction.
-
Main section and subsection titles should be bolded and separated from preceding and following text by a blank line.
-
The first line of text under any subsection title, unlike regular paragraphs, should not be indented.
-
Subsection hierarchy should not exceed three levels (e.g., 3-1-4, indicating a sub-section of section 3).
-
Important specialized terms and less familiar names should have their Latin equivalents provided as footnotes in Times New Roman font, size 10. Except for proper nouns and grammatical principle names, other Latin footnotes should begin with a lowercase letter.
-
Footnotes should be numbered sequentially on each page. Excessive use of footnotes should be avoided.
-
A list of unfamiliar abbreviations should be provided in a footnote before their first use in the text.
-
In-text citations and references within parentheses should be in font size 13.
-
Poetry and any material within parentheses should be in font size 10. Essential footnotes should also be in font size 10.
-
The beginning of each paragraph should have a 0.5 cm indent. The first line under any title does not require an indent.
-
In the final reference list, the first line of each entry should be flush left. If an entry spans more than one line, subsequent lines should have a hanging indent (using the Tab key for a 1 cm indent).
-
If the authors received financial support from an organization or wish to acknowledge individuals who assisted in writing the article, this should be mentioned in the first, unnumbered footnote.
Figures, Examples, and Transcription
-
Use Word's Draw, Table, and Equation tools for creating tree diagrams etc., to ensure proper formatting in the final version.
-
All examples, charts, and images must have consecutive numbers.
-
For transcribing data from unfamiliar languages or dialects, use the Doulos SIL IPA font.
Citation and Referencing Style (APA)
-
If an author's name is mentioned in the text, the publication year is placed in parentheses afterward. If a specific page is referenced, it follows a colon
:
inside the parentheses.-
Example: Semyānian (1983) or *(Hedayat, 1342 SH: 183-184)*
-
-
If an author's name is not mentioned in the text, both the name and year (and page if needed) are placed inside parentheses.
-
*Example: (Tabari, Vol. 2/1375 SH: 584)*
-
-
Direct quotations longer than three lines should be set in a separate block, indented 1 cm from both margins, in the main font but size 10. At the end of the quote, include the author's name, publication year, and page number after a colon
:
. -
Persian and Latin references should be listed in two separate alphabetical sections at the end of the article. For Persian sources, the author's full name should be written without a period after it.
-
All works listed in the references must include their English transliteration (Finglish) in the reference section.
-
